Henry Hobson Richardson, an architect from Brookline, Massachusetts, designed the Allegheny County Courthouse. He died two years before it was finished, but he knew it would be one of his most famous buildings. He used Roman arches in an original way. This style of architecture became famous in America and was named for Richardson.
